Yes, that's right after the better part of two months we have left the Virgin Islands and returned to St. Martin. It's not without doubts that we do this. Over time, we've developed a philosophy where "if you've found what you've been looking for, then why leave?" is the guide to our planning. The San Blas Islands near the Panama Canal, Grand Cayman, Newport, RI, and now the Virgin Islands all fit that rule. They are all great, and we'll just have to hope we find some similarly fantastic places as we continue to explore.
Simpson Bay, St. Martin is a fantastic place. But, for very different reasons. It's crowded, and it's developed. But, in this case, that means one of the greatest collections of very very large yachts that we've ever crossed paths with. Winter brings them South, and the facilities and repair capabilities here in Simpson Bay pull them in.
If "yacht watching" is your thing, this is your place!!
We've managed to take advantage of...
- two large ships chandeliers. Both about the size of a large West Marine Store.
- a sail loft
- a specialty hardware fastener store for some metric screws.
- a refrigeration specialist
- a nice grocery store.
- a machine shop/rigger
and we've only been here for a day and a half!!
Looks like plenty to keep us busy for a week or so, then I'm home for a week and once I return we have guests scheduled to visit through the early part of March!
All's good here, hope to see everyone soon,
-Jim
