Antoni Gaudi

It would be very difficult to visit Barcelona without hearing the name of the famous architect Antoni Gaudi and seeing some of his creations around this city.
A number of his buildings are included in the World Heritage list.  Seven of those are in Barcelona. The seven buildings are: Parque Güell; Palacio Güell; Casa Mila; Casa Vicens; Gaudí’s work on the Nativity façade and Crypt of La Sagrada Familia; Casa Batlló; Crypt in Colonia Güell.
While I’m not a big fan of his “unique” style, I am impressed with the engineering side of some of these creations.
For those of you that like his style more than I do, here are some pictures of his work.

Happy Debbie!

Still Here

We are still in Barcelona!  I could fall back on my favorite "If you don't have a plan, you can't screw it up" line.  But the truth is that we were ready to leave this past Monday.  We've pretty much seen Barcelona at this point, and there so many places yet to see.  But, as can happen, the weather did not cooperate.  Monday was windy and raining, and Tuesday not much better.  Plus, the forecast for the area between here and France (our next destination) was for near gale force winds.  Obviously, we stayed put.

Then what happened was that Debbie found that Barcelona's biggest faire/festival of the year was scheduled for this weekend.  All of the sudden, we had a reason to stay and it didn't take much.  This is a great city and so here we remain.

My Next Regatta

As a result of our get together last week, the team that sailed together during the 2009 NYYC Invitational Regatta has decided that a reunion regatta should happen!

We have selected the 2013 Barcalona Regatta in Trieste, Italy. It sounds perfect! Two days of music and parties, leading up to the largest single start race in the world. 2000+ starters are expected.

The race itself takes about two hours, and then it's back to shore for more fun!

Deb’s New Bicycle

brompton folded

We’ve had some questions regarding Deb’s new bicycle.  It is a folding bike made by a company called Brompton.  We’ve run into a few other cruisers here in the Med. with these bikes and they have all been very happy with them.

The obvious feature that attracted us was the fact that they folded up into such a small package for storage onboard.

Once you ride one, you just need to have one!
