Jim is a happy man!

Thanks to Fred Laffete, Jim has figured out how to launch the kite from the back of the boat. He can now kite anywhere there is wind. No more regulations preventing him from launching off the beach. My task is to sit on deck and take photos, with which, I'm sure, he will be updating the blog. I think I have lots if windy anchorages and alone time in my near future. Ummm... thanks Fred??? 😜😜😜. ;-)

Monaco Fireworks!!

During the month of August, the cities along the French Riviera have a competition to see which city can put on the “best” fireworks display.  We were lucky enough to be in the main harbor tonight when it was Monaco’s turn.

Wow!

Unfortunately, fireworks, like big waves in the ocean don’t really translate via video.  So, you will have to take my word for it.  These were incredible tonight.

Here is a short video segment to get the idea…

What’s more fun maybe is to watch the second clip which is what followed the fireworks.  Turn up the sound on your computer or mobile device and enjoy the show put on by 50-100 very large motor yachts that have very very loud horns!!

Good fun with Debra Gregory, John Callahan and Susan Callahan (they were listening to JC’s CEO when the fireworks started…  Good luck with that speech!)

Happy Birthday Christopher Gregory!!

My son would love this!
It’s hard to believe that you are turning 26 years old!  Its sort of a landmark birthday in that you are now half our age.  You are catching us.
We hope you have a great day, and that you like the cake!

Monte-Carlo

Today’s destination with JC and Susu Callahan!!

Villefranche

Great little town perched over the water. Just over the hill from Nice, and my home for the past week while Deb has been away.

The Renoir Museum

Emmanuel and Catherine Renoir are two of our great friends.  They live in San Diego and are sailors as well.  Before leaving on this trip they were good enough to put us up many times during visits to San Diego, and did their best to teach us a little bit about what to expect while in France.  (I was supposed to have learned to speak the local language, but fear that I have disappointed!)

Emmanuel's great grandfather is the famous impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, so I was anxious to visit the Musee Renoir in nearby Cagnes-sur-mer.

The museum is actually the house that the painter and his family lived in during the later part of his life.

After a quick train ride, I arrived in Cagnes-sur-mer and it is obvious that this town is still crazy for Renoir.  There are streets, building, and businesses using the Renoir name all over the place.

Here are a few pictures from that day…
